Downballot Engage
Know who you may contact. Prove why you thought so.
Engage is the system of record for your supporters and the consent behind every way of reaching them. It organizes your people and keeps the evidence. It is not an outreach platform and does not send messages.
The differentiator
A consent ledger, not a consent checkbox.
Most tools store whether someone opted out as a field, which means the last person to edit it decides the truth and the reasoning is gone. This one keeps every event, in order, permanently.
- Append-only
- A consent event is never edited or deleted. A correction is a new event, so the history survives the correction and the record can be shown to someone who doubts it.
- Per channel, not per person
- Someone can welcome a knock at the door and refuse a text. Consent is recorded against the channel and the specific phone number or address it applies to.
- Opt-in and opt-out are different questions
- An opt-out always blocks. A missing opt-in blocks only where the channel requires one, which is a jurisdictional question, so your organization configures it.
- When it happened, not when it was typed
- A card signed in March and entered in June is consent from March. The record follows the act rather than the data entry.
Being clear about scope
Engage does not send your texts or emails.
It is the layer underneath whatever you send with: it holds your people, records consent, and answers whether a given number or address is reachable on a given channel. Keep using your sending tool. Use this to be sure you should.
- What it does today
- Contacts, businesses, consent records, suppression, saved views, CSV import and export, bulk edits, and a trash that keeps compliance intact when records are purged.
- What it does not do
- Send email, SMS or automated calls. Provide legal advice: the rules are configured by your organization because consent law is jurisdictional.
- On the roadmap
- VAN and VoteBuilder import and export. Not built yet, and no date promised. CSV is the path that works today.
The everyday part
A CRM that behaves like one.
- Contacts and businesses
- People and local organizations, each with as many phone numbers, emails, addresses and links as they actually have, not three fixed slots.
- Views you save
- Filter, sort and choose columns, then keep it. Share a view with your organization or keep it to yourself.
- Import and export
- Bring a CSV in, take a CSV out. Phone numbers are parsed against your organization's region, so a number typed the local way still resolves.
- Bulk edits that mean what you clicked
- Act on the rows you ticked, or on everything matching your filter, and the two are asked for separately, because confusing them is how a bulk delete goes wrong.
Both apps, one application.
Engage comes with Workplan. Every organization in the beta gets both, free while it runs.
